Use these engaging downloadable activities to reinforce the lessons taught in the storybook, Missing the Meaning.
The activities are best suited for children ages 5-11.
The Five Downloadable Activities include:
- Activity 1 – Sharing Reasons – Students will pair up and share their likes/dislikes, goals, and wishes, and then provide a reason for each one. Activity Handout with prompts provided.
- Activity 2 – Color by Word – Students learn that others may have different likes and preferences than their own, and that’s okay! Color Key and Coloring Sheet provided.
- Activity 3 – Situations – Students will use the strategies of asking questions, paying attention, and perspective-taking to find out why certain situations are happening or why someone is acting in a particular way. Discussion Cards provided.
- Activity 4 – Matching Game – Students will play a matching game to test how well they can determine which reason best explains a specific situation. Two Matching Games and Answer Keys provided.
- Activity 5 – Draw the Reason – Students will practice thinking of reasons for situations based on pictures and facial expressions. Activity Handout provided.
